About

A member of the African Bible Colleges group

Founded in Lilongwe in 2016, teaching business and character together.

Why the institute exists

Africa needs a critical mass of small and medium enterprises. It equally needs the people to run them well.

ABI was founded on the conviction that the fight against poverty calls for enterprise and integrity in the same person, and that leaders combining the acumen of an entrepreneur with the heart of a minister are rare enough to be worth training deliberately.

Operating within the African Bible Colleges group gives the institute an environment that takes character formation as seriously as financial modelling. Beyond teaching, ABI invests in alumni ventures through its startup fund, which has backed businesses in Malawi, Uganda and Liberia, and runs business workshops in rural communities, which gives students somewhere to put what they have learned.

What we look for in a graduate

Not the enriching of pockets but the enriching of lives, measured in the businesses they build and the people those businesses employ.
